The Best Free Stock Photo Resources

Do you ever feel like you’re just not cut out to take the design and visuals for your site into your own hands? Too much pressure to live up to the industry's greatest designers and visual experts? It's okay, you can relax. All you need is a little bit of guidance and understanding of the tools available to you.

There are many options for stock photos if you’re willing to purchase, but I am going to focus primarily on the free resources. Now, as you can imagine, there are hundreds of free options, but I’ve narrowed it down to the ones that have a clear understanding on the terms of subject matter as well as large stocks of imagery.

This is a great option for photos, as well as vector graphics. You can creatively utilize vector graphics if you have projects where you want to showcase your partnerships or clients, to display research you’ve done or even infographics! As long as you give attribution (meaning you don’t have to pay and you don’t have to give credit to the photographer) to the author, all images are free for use.

Textures can be a great way to add a layer of design by having the visual element exist in the background of the site without complicating the overall look.

Highly recommended by marketers, Pixabay has a great selection of images and videos that are royalty free, easy to use, and do not require attribution.

Good Free Photos has over 11000 photo categorized mainly by location. This site specializes in photos of state parks, national parks, national landmarks, and historical sites. There are also photos for business, tech, animal, plant, and food photos. All photos are free to use for any purpose. Whats cool about this site is that they take requests for specific photos if you don't see what you need.

If you have a site that needs that bit of spunk and fun and you’re looking for an image this is the perfect place to find it. There are new photos added each week, so there's always something new. The site offers free high-resolution collections for use on commercial or personal projects. All images are free of copyright restrictions.

Pexels is another great choice for capturing the perfect high-resolution images for your site. No purchase or attribution is necessary for most photos, but make sure to clarify (details typically under the photo) before downloading.

There is a vast variety of high-resolution images including, fashion, food, nature, people, and technology. Category listing makes is easy to narrow down your search.  All picjumbo images are free for commercial or personal use with attribution to the author.

One of the most popular resources among developers and designers for hundreds of beautiful photos. All images have no copyright because the photographers have dedicated their work to the public domain and waived all rights to the work worldwide under copyright law through Creative Commons.

Now that I have touched on a few of my favorite image sites, you have a few resources at your fingertips. You’ll be able to get your creative juices flowing and present the visualization and beauty next to some of the best in the industry.
